Aptilo announced that a tier-1 carrier in North America has selected Aptilo SMP Wi-Fi Calling, a vendor-agnostic 3GPP AAA system to enable Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE / VoWiFi entitlement. One example of such functionality is the interaction with iOS entitlement servers for onboarding individual iPhone devices to the VoLTE and VoWiFi services.
Aptilo claims that the solution adds an additional authorization and security mechanism on top of what is specified in the 3GPP standards. Without the entitlement process in place, all SIM-enabled iOS devices would be allowed access to the VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling services. It also brings additional benefits for the mobile operator such as end-user acceptance of terms and conditions (EULA), emergency address registration, and service activation for secondary devices associated with the subscriber’s mobile account.

Selecting a best-of-breed AAA vendor such as Aptilo is the only way an operator can guarantee to get the additional functionality they need and keep their negotiation power by staying independent from turnkey solutions.

At the same time, operators will get the world’s leading platform for carrier- class Wi-Fi service management, the Aptilo SMP, enabling award-winning Wi-Fi data services to subscribers and B2B customers.
