Openwave Mobility has launched The NFV Playbook, the definitive, practical guide for mobile operators deploying NFV on their network.

Available exclusively to mobile operators, the e-book includes insight from key industry analysts and observations based on 18 months of live NFV trials. The NFV Playbook was developed in response to mobile operators needing to better understand the issues, strategies and pitfalls when deploying NFV.

According to Openwave Mobility, major telecom operators including AT&T, Vodafone, Orange and Zain are making NFV a business reality. Spending on NFV is forecast to reach $38 billion within five years, according to ABI Research.

The NFV Playbook has easy to read 10 minute segments covering the realities of NFV implementations from business, technical and financial perspectives. Topics covered include: 6 lessons for rollout, the key NFV applications, monetizing VNFs and a review of available NFV platform technologies.

Along with the e-book, Openwave Mobility is also offering a dedicated NFV workshop to expand upon the intelligence from the Playbook. It provides mobile operators the opportunity to meet subject matter experts face-to-face and learn from their expertise and address deployment issues.

To produce The NFV Playbook, Openwave Mobility teamed up with renowned industry analysts including Dimitris Mavrakis from ABI Research, Joe Hoffman from JAH Research and Sue Rudd from Strategy Analytics.

Some operators have sacrificed innovation, others are struggling with new forms of “vendor-lock-in”, while some are already experiencing NFV silos. The Playbook provides valuable intelligence for mobile operators to hit the ground running, right from selecting the correct deployment model through to successfully rolling it out across the network and securing revenue streams.
