TeliaSonera has partnered Ericsson to become the first operator to offer 5G services to its customers. It targets to have comercial 5G in Tallinn and Stockholm in 2018. Working with Ericsson, TeliaSonera was the first operator to commercially launch 4G network in 2009.
Under the partnership, both companies will be developing 5G use-cases and service scenarios, including both communication and Internet of Things (IoT) services. The companies are eyeing at a nummber of potential 5G applications, including e-health with real time surveillance of patients and remote treatment; connected cars including critical communication between vehicles (warnings, support to self-driving cars etc.) as well as better network performance in terms of capacity, coverage and power consumption.
