Vietnamese mobile network operator, MobiFone has selected Taqua Virtual Mobile Core (VMC) to launch its Wi-Fi Calling service - WiTalk - in the country. The operator also leveraged Taqua’s Mobile Client to enable Wi-Fi Calling on Android smartphones that do not have native dialer support for Wi-Fi Calling.

WiTalk enables MobiFone subscribers to make and receive calls even when they have poor cellular network connection via any Wi-Fi network. Also, when traveling out of country, MobiFone subscribers can text and make calls over Wi-Fi networks with lower call tariffs, rather than using regular international roaming services, said the operator.

Taqua’s VMC is a virtualized IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) services core that enables rapid deployment of next-generation mobile voice and messaging services including VoWiFi and VoLTE. The VMC is a carrier-grade solution that integrates a number of standard IMS functions into a single software product, including a Telephony Application Server (TAS), IP Short Message Gateway (IP-SM-GW), Service Consistency and Continuity Application Server (SCC-AS), Serving Call State Control Function (S-CSCF) and Media Resource Function (MRF).

Nam Bui Son, Deputy Managing Director of MobiFone Corporation at MobiFone
We chose Taqua because we wanted to come to market fast, and because they have a proven track record in deploying Wi-Fi Calling with Tier 1 mobile operators around the world.

Ken Kolderup, CMO of Taqua
By leveraging the unique Fast Track features our Virtual Mobile Core, mobile operators can bring Wi-Fi Calling services to market in one tenth the time and at one tenth the cost of solutions from other vendors.
