Vodafone Portugal has launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology to offer its customers access to high definition voice service, HD Voice+, throughout the country. The operator which claims to be the first in Portugal to launch the technology said that the VoLTE service will be rolled out gradually for customers on the Microsoft Lumia 640 and Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones with more devices expected to join the line-up in near future.

In addition to superior, crystal clear and noise-free voice quality, VoLTE technology offers faster call set-up and makes it possible for 4G voice and data to be accessed simultenously and at high speed. VoLTE also places less demand on the batteries of mobile phones, since all communications, both voice and data, are carried on the 4G network, reducing passage between different networks (2G, 3G and 4G), which is normally very demanding on battery life.
