UK mobile carrier Vodafone has announced that its WiFi Calling service will be going live in coming weeks across the country. This follows EE, O2 and Three which have already launched the service earlier this year. The new service will enable customers to make or receive calls natively from places where mobile signal is weak or non-existent by leveraging on any WiFi hotspot.
The operator will be rolling out the service nationwide over the next few weeks on a number of leading smartphones to customers subscribing to the Vodafone Red Bundle including Vodafone Red, Red Value and Red+. There will be no additional charge to use the service.
"So why is Wi-Fi Calling so exciting? Well, there are multiple reasons. Whilst we are committed to delivering 98% coverage across the UK using 2G, 3G and 4G services there will always be some places where you find you can’t get signal", read Vodafone blog.
The introduction of WiFi Calling follows the nationwide deployment of High Definition (HD) Voice by Vodafone and the roll-out of its 4G+ service via carrier aggregation.
