French telecom giant, Orange has entered into an agreement with Cellcom Telecommunications to acquire 100% stake in Cellcom Liberia, the largest mobile operator in Liberia to strengthen its position in Africa. This acquisition is part of the international development strategy of Orange, which aims to accelerate its growth by entering new emerging markets with high potential.

Liberia, a West African country with 4.3 million population boasts mobile penetration rate of 66%, lower than many neighbouring countries. According to a statement by Orange, Cellcom’s founders and employees will remain involved in the business to ensure smooth integration, performance support and continuation of long-standing relations with the Government of Liberia.
